Exhibit Specialist / Grounds Rover

Purpose: To provide information to the visiting public and security for ZooMontana.
Brief Description: Answer visitor questions about specific exhibits. Help provide a safe environment for animals and visitors.
Time Requirements: One summer season. One shift per month.
Training Requirements: General volunteer orientation, on the job training, certification (after 20 hours at the exhibit take the certification test).
Responsibilities and Skills: Answer questions in a friendly and professional manner. Notify staff of any problems.
Use of a two way radio is a must. More than one person may be stationed at these sites so an ability to work well with others is a must. Performance evaluations given periodically.
Benefits: Increased knowledge of ZooMontana's animals and their ecology. Accumulation of hours and certification in this area may lead to further volunteer opportunities in education program as a tour guide, education animal handler, assistant keeper, and many others.

Grounds Specialist

Purpose: To keep ZooMontana beautiful and increase plant and native animal species.
Brief Description: Maintenance of the ZooMontana grounds and gardens, including weeding, planting, trash pick up, raking, mulching, housekeeping, habitat construction, equipment maintenance, and various repairs. Light lifting (30 lbs) and bending may be required
Time Requirements:
Training Requirements: General volunteer orientation, on the job training.
Responsibilities and Skills: Task dependent. Volunteer ability and interest should be kept up to date at the volunteer office. Volunteer will be contacted if skills match and/or jobs will be posted in the volunteer office.
Benefits: Increased knowledge in the machine repair, grounds maintenance, and zoo ecology.

Janitorial Assistant

Description: Grounds clean up, as well as basic building cleaning. ZooMontana takes pride in our Zoo and we need additional hands to help keep it clean. We clean the inside of our main building 3 times a week and do an overview of the exterior grounds once a week. Includes bathrooms, trash removal (indoors/outdoors), trash pick up.
Skills Enjoy being outside, light lifting and bending is required, people skills are a must.

Garden Docent

Description: Performs a wide range of landscape/ maintenance activities in conjunction with ongoing maintenance and renovation of existing gardens and creation of new gardens. This includes upkeep, preservation and management of plant collections under the direction of the horticulture supervisor. Duties include soil preparation, planting, mulching weeding, and water. Occasional light lifting and bending to be expected, however, allowances may be made for those unable to do so. Saturday / Sunday tour guide docent of the gardens would be a great opportunity for those working a 40 hour week. Gives volunteer opportunity to educate the public about the plants at the Zoo.
Skills: An interest in learning about ZooMontana's garden, people skills are a must.

Gardener (outdoors)

Purpose: To keep ZooMontana beautiful and increase plant and native animal species.
Brief Description: Performs a wide range of landscape/maintenace activities in conjunction with the ongoing maintenance and renovation of existing gardens and the creation of new gardens. This includes upkeep, presersvation and management of plant collections under the direction of the horticulture supervisor. Duties include soil preparation, planting, mulching, weeding, and watering. Occasional light lifting and bending to be expected, however, allowances may be made for those unable to do so.
Time Requirements: One four hour shift per month April through October, flexible during normal zoo operating hours.

Admissions Technician

Purpose: To aid ZooMontana in admitting visitors into the zoo.
Brief Description: Admit visitors, use cash register, inform the public about exhibits, events and activities at the zoo, and provide general information to the public.
Time Requirements: One four hour shift per month during peak operations (April-October). One season commitment is required.
Training Requirements: General volunteer orientation, on the job training, certification.
Responsibilities and Skills: Person must be friendly and enthusiastic about ZooMontana. Able to count money and administer change. User of a simple cash register is helpful. The ability to work quickly and efficiently is a must.
Benefits: Increased knowledge in use of cash register and customer service skills.

Office Assistant

Description: This position will be the assistant to the Volunteer Coordinator / Guest Services Manager / And Membership Coordinator. Assistant will assist with filing, general office duties, answering phones, data entry, mailing.
Skills: General computer skills, multi line phone skills, and people skills are a must.

Nature Store

Purpose: To aid ZooMontana in directing phone calls and visitors and in operation of the Nature store.
Brief Description: Answer phones, direct calls to various staff, provide information to visitors, use computer and cash register, operate radio, distribute keys, run credit card approvals, alert staff of severe weather warnings.
Time Requirements: One four hour shift per month during peak operation (April - October). One season commitment is required.
Training Requirements: General volunteer orientation, on the job training. Review and continued training may be required as the area demands.
Responsibilities and Skills: Person must be friendly and enthusiastic about ZooMontana. Able to count money and administer change. Use of cash register, computer and multi line phones is essential. This is a multi-task area, the ability to work quickly and efficiently is a must. A general knowledge about ZooMontana is a must, therefore, 30 hours general vounteer service is recommended.
Benefits: Increased knowledge in the use of multi line phones, transferring calls, use of voicemail, office machine operation and customer service.

Education Docent

Purpose: To aid ZooMontana's education staff in providing interpretive programs to the public on and off zoo grounds.
Brief Description: Give tours and interpretive talks to the visiting public and off ground sites, work in the Discovery center, train new volunteers, aid in curriculum and program development and animal handling.
Time Requirements:
Training Requirements: General volunteer orientation, all volunteer training classes, 50 hours general volunteer experience, 50 hours tour experience, 20 hours per animal training and complete test.
Responsibilities and Skills: Must be willing to be involved in all aspects of the education department. Ability ot lead others, interest in education is helpful, an ability with computers and openness to learning are a must. Volunteers will be accountable for the information being given, and so must keep up to date on information and zoo happenings. Will be training or mentoring new volunteer candidates. Performance evaluations given periodically.
Benefits: Increased knowledge in animal behavior, biology, ecology, and environment awareness.

Education Assistant

Description: This position will be an assistant to the Education Directors. Assisting with education programs, obtaining valuable educational materials, putting together mailings, filing, scheduling of tours and field trips.
Skills: Education background preferred, phone skills, people skills are a must.

Tour Guide

Purpose: To aid ZooMontana's education staff in providing interpretive programs to the public.
Brief Description: Give tours and interpretive talks to the visiting public.
Time Requirements: Variable according to Education Department needs.
Training Requirements: General volunteer orientation, 50 hours additional volunteer experience, certification on all animal sites.
Responsibilities and Skills: Ability to lead others, interest in education is helpful openness to learning area a must. Volunteers will be accountable for the information being given, and so must keep up to date on information and zoo happenings. Performance evaluations given periodically.
Benefits: Increased knowledge in animal behavior, biology, ecology and environmental awareness.

Event Coordinator Assistant

Description: This position will be the assistant to the Event Coordinator. Assistant will maintain events schedule, coordinate with vendors & quests on day of event. Assist with answering phones and returning phone calls for the events department. Events include, company picnics, birthday parties, weddings, etc.
Skills: Computer skills, pleasant phone voice, organization and people skills are a must.

Maintenance Volunteer

Description: This position is more of a independent position. This person will answer to the Maintenance Manager but will perform majority of duties solely. Includes mechanical maintenance of equipment, light plumbing (including sprinkler systems), grounds maintenance (fencing repair), and building maintenance, (changing light bulbs).
Skills: Ability to lift 50 lbs or more, climb ladders, works great independently, people skills are a must.
