TJ update as of 05/04/2008
TJ is doing well in Columbia since his arrival from St. Louis April 26th 2007. He has adjusted well to his new surroundings and exhibit. The 75’ x 50’ (3750 sq ft) tiger exhibit includes a deep pool providing fresh water for drinking and is large enough for the animals to submerge in if they choose. There are gunite dens that disguise animal shift doors and serve as shelter for the animals while on exhibit. The substrate is primarily sand and heavily planted with large exotic bamboo, providing shade over the majority of the exhibit. Holding space is located behind the exhibit consisting of 4 holding cages and two cubbing dens, all of which measure8’x 8’x 8.
TJ, now 15 years old is beginning to show some signs of joint degeneration in his hips which his is currently being medicated to ease his discomfort and for his age he is doing very well. Recently, a former Keeper from Denver who now works at White Oak Plantation and involved in his rearing as a cub visited him in Columbia and was pleased with his condition and it was obvious TJ recognized her as a familiar face from his past.
