On-Site

ZooMontana's on-site education program seeks to educate its visitors with respect to the zoo's animal and plant collection. A natural history is prepared for each animal. These histories are used by volunteers and staff to educate visitors about the animals housed here. Education camps, speakers, programs and other activities are also used to teach visitors about animals, the environment and a variety of related topics. Camps are currently offered at the zoo over the summer. Most camps are for grades preK-6.

Tours can be scheduled for groups of all ages. Trained volunteers and staff members present general information on the zoo, animal and habitat information, and conservation themes. All group members are encouraged to have fun and participate in the tour.

Discovery Center activities are fun, interactive ways for kids to learn about a variety of topics related to plants, animals and our environment. Currently, there are several permanent animal exhibits and educational displays and plans to further develop the center. Education programs are being developed around these exhibits and a multi-media interactive area is available.

The Zoo As A Living Classroom. ZooMontana works with high school and colleges to help create a stimulating learning environment. Research opportunities and internships for students are scheduled by appointment with the schools' facilitators.

Group Admission

For youth groups of 12 or more students that schedule ahead we offer a discounted admission rate: $3 per person. We ask that you provide 1 adult chaperone for every 8 children up to age 15. Zoo memberships do not apply.

Classroom visits to the zoo

Planning a field trip? Group visits need to be scheduled two weeks in advance. The month of May is our busiest month, so schedule early if you plan to come during the spring rush! Make sure students come prepared for the weather.

Guided tours

Enhance your visit to ZooMontana with a special guided tour! Guided tours last approximately 90 minutes and are available year-round. Tours are led by the education department personnel and docents. Maximum tour size is 30 and a tour fee of $50.00 is charged in addition to the admission rate.

Tour routes and topics can be customized to your needs, and are adapted to the age of the participants.

Additional on-grounds programs with the Educational Ambassador Animals are available for your class for an additional fee of $30.00 (these must be planned at least two weeks in advance).

Discovery Center

Make sure to allow time on your field trip to visit our Discovery Center. The Living Wall exhibit features animals from around the world displayed in an artistic rendition of a natural environment. Guides are available for teachers with activities to make their students' vist to the wall an interactive experience in natural science. The Discovery Center also houses several other animal exhibits.

The Discovery Center also features projects from area classrooms. Would you like to put your students' conservation and environmental learning on display at the zoo?
Call the education department for more information!
